The term organic food refers to the food which is produced and manufactured under the legal standards and has its certification. The concept of organic food for agriculture means the cultivation of the crops without the use of any artificial resources like pesticides, etc. while for the animals this concept means that these animals should be free of artificial breeding and the use of hormones or antibiotics.  A great example of organic food is organic white tea.

History of Organic Food:
During the old times the concept of organic food was only limited to the farms which were small and managed by the family but with the evolution and the importance of  organic food, now this food is produced on a large scale. Many large companies have turned their production of food towards the organic concept because of the demand of the consumer.

Organic Food & Certification:
There is an interesting fact about the organic food that all of the organic food available is not certified and the certified food is surely organic. The process of getting certification requires time and money and because of this not all of the organic food available is certified and this is the reason behind the popularity of the local food over organic food.

Expansion in the Organic Food Market:
The market of organic food is growing on daily basis because of the awareness of the concept among the people. Now you can find most of the food items available as organic food. You can find a huge variety of organic food available in the market.

Benefits of Organic food:
There are many benefits of organic food, not only to the individuals but also to the environment. Because of no use of fertilizers or pesticides, there is no environmental discharge in the form of various gases and it also has no danger for the wild life living around the farms. The use of energy is also less than the conventional farms and there is less waste too.

Taste of Organic Food:
According to a research study, it has been proved that organic food is much better and natural in terms of taste because it is free of artificial chemicals.

Criticism:
The major problem with the consumption of organic food is the high price. The price is almost ten to forty percent more than the conventional food. The reason behind this high price is the cost of certification and series of tests to ensure that the food is organic.

To go green the consumption of organic food should be promoted.

I had no idea that organic food certification was such a lengthy process. I’ve been trying to purchase more organic when available, and lately I’ve been seeing more local foods make it into my grocery stores.
